Get an Awesome Soundtrack to Your Summer

Every girl needs some good music to go along with her summer -- songs to jam on your earphones when you’re lounging by the pool, skating or biking, and heading out on those looooooong family road trips. Here are our picks for your summer soundtrack:

“All Day,” Cody Simpson
This is the perfect laid-back, mid-tempo tune for days when you’re hanging out without a care in the world. The fact that the voice behind the lyrics is cute Aussie Cody Simpson makes the track even better!

“Not Your Birthday,” All Star Weekend
This super-fun jam -- sung by four hotties who are signed to the same label as the Jonas Brothers -- encourages everyone to turn a bad day around by partying just for the heck of it. It’s impossible to not have a blast when this song is playing!

“Wait and See,” Camryn
If you’re plotting a major comeback for next school year, get amped with this high-energy track. Newcomer Camryn is proving that nothing can stop her success: Two of her songs are in the flick Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer, and she recently toured with Cody Simpson and Greyson Chance!

“Boyfriend,” Big Time Rush
What’s better than a summer crush? Four of ’em! The cuties of Big Time Rush happily sing about how they want to be your BF with this upbeat tune. Snoop Dogg’s rapping provides the perfect break from the catchy chorus.

“I Am,” Ya Boy Ro
Roshon Fegan of “Shake It Up” is encouraging everyone to be true to themselves. This upbeat tune makes you want to sing it loud and sing it proud!

“Loser Like Me,” “Glee” Cast
Actually, everyone’s a winner here! The cast of the popular musical series belts out an original tune. When you need a personal pick-me-up, listen to this feisty track.

“Firework,” Katy Perry
You’ve probably already had this one on your playlist for a while now, but it wasn’t released until the end of last summer, so make it this season’s anthem: “Ignite the light and let it shine. Just own the night like the Fourth of July!”

“Before It Explodes,” Charice
Add a power ballad like this one to your playlist for those days when you just need to belt out an intense tune. Favorite “Glee” guest star Charice unleashes her strong vocals on these lyrics.

“Jealous,” Jasmine V
If you’ve ever been frustrated by feelings of jealousy around your crush or boyfriend, you’ll totally relate to this catchy song.

“We Could Be Anything,” Nolan Sotillo
This breezy, romantic tune is from the guy who played Lucas Arnaz in Disney’s Prom. The lyrics may perfectly express how you feel about that best guy friend you’d like to become something more. Nolan is currently filming the new Disney Channel series “Madison High.” (Check out our sneak peek below!)

5 Things to Do Before SchoolÂ’s Out

Believe it or not, the school year is already starting to wind down -- and you wanna go out with a bang. Take a few positive risks and they could set you up for one phenomenal summer vacation (and maybe an even better start to next fall).

Talk to Your Crush
You’ve been admiring the cutie in math class all year, and he’s seriously disrupted your ability to understand linear equations. Even if you’re ultra-shy around this guy, take tiny steps to make your presence known. This can be as simple as borrowing a pencil or asking him if he had any trouble with last night’s homework. If you can’t full-on break the ice, at least start chiseling away at it -- you’ll get there!

Salvage a Bad Grade
An awesome score on a final exam can really pull a grade up, so don’t head into finals with only a vague idea of the subject matter. Teachers are happy to give you guidance, so ask for help. It may mean putting in a little extra time in the morning before school starts or after the final bell rings, but that mark on your report card will be worth the effort.

Stand up to the Mean Girl
Don’t wage an all-out war on the gal who’s been making your life difficult, but it’s time to step up. Next time this girl makes a snide comment, look her directly in the eye and confidently flash a smile. This will let her know that you aren’t intimidated by her -- and you’ll feel stronger for taking solid-but-subtle action.

Ask an Embarrassing Question
Personal questions about your changing body may make you blush, but if you have some concerns about your period or anything else that seems a bit different, make an appointment with your school nurse and put it all out there. You’ll feel 10 times better once you have an intimate Q answered.

Make a New Friend
Invite a casual acquaintance from class to go to the mall or just hang out at your house one afternoon. You chat in between classes, so why not take your friendship outside of school? Adding a new pal to your crew could open up lots of possibilities for the summer break, and by the time school resumes in the fall, you two might be super tight!

Crafty Ways to Help the Planet!

Earth Day is almost here! (It’s on April 22.) Want to show the planet some lovin'? We’ve come up with things you can reuse in cool ways instead of sending them off to hang out in a landfill. Who knew being green could be so much fun?

Adorable Jewelry Organizer

All you need for a bling holder you’ll love? An old frame, liquid glue, pushpins and some cork sheets (get these for cheap at a craft store). Just take the glass and back off the frame, cut the cork so it’s the same size as a photo that would fit in the frame, and glue it in place in the opening. Once it’s dry, stick colorful pushpins in the front to hang your jewelry on. We love the way the finished product looks hanging on the wall -- and you’ll never need to hunt for an earring again!

Wacky Wire Ring

Betcha didn’t know you could make something this cool out of boring old paper clips! Grab a bunch of the colorful ones -- stick with your favorite hue or mix up a bunch if you’re feeling really artsy. Unfold them so each one is straight, then reshape them into a swirling pattern, bending each clip around the clump of paper clips as you go. Once you’ve made the bauble as big as you want, attach one more paper clip to the back and shape it into a ring so it fits your finger.

Crazy-cute Locker Magnets

These are about to become your new favorite locker accessory. Collect a few bottle caps from old-fashioned glass bottles, fill them with liquid glue, and then pour in some glitter. Once they’re dry, stick a magnet on the back -- either use self-adhesive magnets from the craft store or cut off a piece from a magnet sheet and attach it with a dab of glue. Love it!

Personalized Journal

Does anyone else have a serious hoarding problem when it comes to old greeting cards? We feel guilty throwing them out, but they’re not exactly doing any good just taking up space in your junk drawer. Get some use out of ’em by turning them into notebook covers. Here’s how: Open up a card, and then trace the outline onto 10 sheets of paper. Cut along the guidelines, staple the pages to the card at its crease, then fold everything together. Now get writing!

Chic Vases

Keep an eye out for any pretty jars or bottles in the pantry that are almost empty. Before Mom throws them away, ask if you can have them instead. Rinse them out, stick a flower or two inside, and you’ve got an instant set of bud vases! Display a few grouped together for a pretty effect.

Friending Your Frenemy

You know that girl in your crew who clashes with you? Whether it’s because of her rude ’tude or her constant negativity, you just don’t quite get along with her. And this could cause some awkwardness when you’re both hanging out in the same circle. So face it: She’s here to stay, and you have to make nice. Here’s how to keep the peace -- even with your worst frenemy.

Toss Her a Compliment
This is a tried-and-true tactic for shutting down frenemy friction. Rather than going out of your way to avoid, ignore or brush off a not-so-nice chica, be the first to shell out an “I like your outfit!” She won’t know how to respond, and you’ll leave her beyond baffled. It might even melt her iciness and have her seeing you in a different light.

Float Her an Invite
Throwing a birthday bash or hosting a sleepover? Instead of keeping your guest list exclusive to a favored few, extend an invitation to your frenemy too. There’s no better way to say, “Hey, let’s get to know each other better.” The gesture will take her by surprise, and having your whole group as a buffer should ease any awkwardness.

Have Her Back
Get on her good side by, er, taking her side. Stick up for her the next time the class clown targets your frenemy, or when an untrue rumor has been spread at her expense. Showing her a bit of loyalty when she feels heated or helpless is a surefire way to soften the friction between the two of you.

Make Her Laugh
Get chummy with your frenemy by having a good laugh with her. A case of the giggles can break even the tensest situation and banish any bad feelings. So show off your funny side! The minute you two are chuckling, the vibe should totally delete any bad feelings of the past.

Lift Her Spirits
Can you sense your frenemy is a little down and out? Did she get cut from the field hockey team or sprain her ankle? Take an oh-so thoughtful approach and use your creative juices to construct a “feel better” card. She should be wowed and softened by your support through tough times and start seeing you as (dare we say it?) a friend.
