Party Like a Celebrity!

Wanna have a party fit for a celeb? From invites and decorations to food and activities, here’s how to host a summer soiree your guests won’t soon forget. Ready, party monster?

You’re Invited!
No, you do not need to be all over-the-top by going door-to-door passing out invites from the back of a circus elephant, like those girls on MTV’s “My Super Sweet Sixteen.” Some simple but glam options include sending out a themed email invitation (Evite.com has Hollywood-style invites), or make your own VIP passes by laminating your invitations and stringing them on lanyards.

What to Wear?
On the invite, tell guests the dress code is glitzy! That doesn’t mean girls need to go out and buy designer gowns -- just have fun with it. Hit up the consignment shop for secondhand sparkly sequined dresses, and raid your mom’s stash for some fun costume jewelry. (Rhinestones, anyone?) Boys in tuxedo T-shirts? Yep, that counts. Anything goes!

Making an Entrance
Of course, you’ll need a red carpet runner for guests to make their grand entrance to your party. We’ve seen 15-foot runners for as cheap as $6 at discount party stores and online sites. And it doesn’t actually have to be a carpet. Use a roll of red plastic or art paper -- whatever you can find. Be sure to assign someone to be the photographer (your little brother will do), and have guests strike a pose as they arrive.

Celebration Decorations
Forget the balloons and streamers -- have star-studded decor inside the party location. Hang star-shaped cutouts from the ceiling with string or fishing line. Just cut stars from gold or silver construction paper (glitter adds a nice touch), or use poster board and wrap them in aluminum foil to make them bling-y!

Foo-foo Food
No need to hire a celebrity chef. Serve small hors d’oeuvres (check the supermarket’s frozen section) that can be passed around on trays so there’s no messy food table. Even an assortment of crackers, cheese and olives can be elegant. Make “sushi” by wrapping Fruit Roll-Ups around log-shaped snack cakes (like Twinkies or HoHos) and slicing them into rounds. Yum!

Fabulous Fun!
Of course, don’t forget the music. Dancing is a great way to get any good party started! To make your bash truly memorable, have an awards ceremony. Give out honors for Best Choreography in Freestyle Dance, and Best Vintage Dress With a Contemporary Twist. Be sure there’s a category for every guest so no one walks away empty-handed. The envelope, please ...

Swag Bags

All celebrity parties give good swag. Put together small gift bags loaded with an assortment of inexpensive items, such as lip gloss and guitar picks. Present these to your guests as they leave your party and get in their limos. (Just kidding.)

Kickin' It With Dad

OK, so Dad probably doesn’t want to go shopping or head out for a manicure. But there are some things you can do with him to tighten up (and lighten up!) your relationship. Here are our awesome ideas:

Build a Fort
Whether you have a big backyard or a secret spot in the woods where you and your friends hang out, enlist your dad’s help to construct an awesome fort. Lots of dads are handy with tools, and building something together could help you also build on your relationship!

Pick a Sport
Most dads love sports. Is your dad a football or baseball fanatic? You can bond by doing something as fun and simple as tossing a ball back and forth at the park. Or introduce your dad to your fave athletic activity. Think you can convince him to put on a pair of skates and head to the nearest indoor ice rink?

Plot a Garden
Does your dad break a sweat every weekend while mowing the lawn? Maybe you can get him to dig out a patch where you two can grow a vegetable garden. If you don’t have the yard space, plant cherry tomatoes in large containers or make a windowsill herb garden.

Cook a Meal
Dads love to eat, right? You don’t have to be a culinary genius to have a ton of fun making food (and chowing) together. Ask your dad to show you how to concoct his famous layered nacho dip. Or, make fresh pasta sauce using your own fresh herbs, and grill up some sliced zucchini from your veggie garden.

Create Some Art
Even if you don’t consider yourselves artists, everyone has some creative abilities. Break out the colored pencils or make a photo collage together. Or, hey, see if your dad will help you paint your bedroom a cool new color!

Listen to Music
You and your dad might not always agree when it comes to musical tastes, but open your minds -- and your ears. Pick something from your playlist that you think might appeal to your dad, and let him listen to it. Then, ask him to choose something you might like from his collection. Rock on!

The Three Times ItÂ’s OK to Gossip

So, we’ve all learned that gossiping is a total no-no. And if you’ve ever been on the not-so-nice side of the whispers and murmurs, you know how hurtful gossiping can be. But let’s be real -- it’s often just too hard to resist taking part in the “ooh’s” and “aah’s” of the rumor mill.

We hear ya, girl, loud and clear! Turns out, a lot of experts actually agree that taking the time to have some fun with a bit of banter can be great for easing stress and upping social skills. Yay! Not all gossip has to be negative. Here are the three times it’s OK to repeat the juicy deets. Under any other circumstances, keep your lips sealed!

Friendly Warning
Gossip can, at times, be used to help a friend or dole out some sincere advice to another person. For example: Is your bestie crushing on a bad boy whose rep is less than desirable? Remember, gossip can be deceiving, so you should def give the guy a chance. Get to know him one-on-one before forming an opinion. (Remember how everyone misjudged Jesse in Prom?) But if you have firsthand knowledge that a friend could be getting involved in a sticky situation, speak up!

Permission Slip
If you get a nod directly from the source to leak her biz to the masses, feel free to telecast her tidings. Say, for example, a girl in your crew wants you to publicly announce she’s got a date with the hottest guy in your neighborhood, or that she landed a spot on the summer cheer squad. There’s no foul play in dishing out the scoop. If there’s ever a moment when a friend wants to boast a bit about the happenings in her life via the grapevine, spread the word!

Celeb Chatter
Sometimes, joining in on the gab session can just be a bit of fun chit-chat to deliver the latest in entertainment news. Was there a sighting of your fave teen celebrity canoodling with another celeb? Did you hear that two on-screen divas are totally real-life frenemies? Go on and share the hot-off-the-press reports.

Quiz: Is He Really Swoon-worthy?

There are probably at least a couple of things you know for sure about your crush: He’s an awesome soccer player, his favorite color is green, and he’s totally cute. But are you sure he’s really and truly crush-worthy? Take our quiz to find out if this guy’s got dream-date potential or is simply a master of disaster!
