Kristen Stewart Turns Darkness Into Light as Snow White

You know the story about the exiled princess and the seven dwarves, but you’ve never seen K-Stew quite like this! When Kristen Stewart set out to put her own spin on Snow White, she made it clear she wasn’t about to be anyone’s princess. We talked to her about the diff between playing a fairytale icon in Snow White and the Huntsman and Bella Swan in The Twilight Saga.

What’s it like playing the modern-day classic character Bella has become as compared to the timeless traditional tale of Snow White?

Kristen Stewart: I guess the only actual comparison that sticks out in my mind is that they really are, in different ways, matriarchs -- very strong, strong matriarchs. And them both being icons, it’s funny because Snow White was really never part of my childhood; I didn’t grow up on fairytales. I know everyone says, “It’s so cool because we’ve all grown up with this story.” Well, no, not really. I didn’t. I also didn’t grow up with Twilight.

Do you go out of your way to find roles that are different from Bella?

Kristen Stewart: The movies I’ve done between the Twilight films, I’ve just been really lucky that they’ve been very different -- not because I’ve meant them to be, but literally because the things I’ve been drawn to have been different from the Twilight thing.

Can you spill any juice about your next project?

Kristen Stewart: This is the first time in a long time I haven’t known what I was going to be doing next, and I don’t want to rush it because I want to have time off to find out what I’m interested in. Not to say that I’ve just been going, going, going all the time and I don’t know myself -- not at all. It’s just that I want a little bit of time to figure out what I really, really, really want to do.

Are you able to process the impact you have on your female fans?

Kristen Stewart: I love that. I hate when people ask, “What advice do you want to give your fans?” It’s just weird because that question always presents, “So, why are you better?” And I’m literally the same as my fans, which is why it’s so cool. I thank them too. The same reason they like me, I’m sure I’d like them. It’s common ground, and it’s because I’m placed on this pedestal, it looks like, “Wow, it’s so incredible that you can be that way,” but not really. It’s so weird. Trust me, come on up; you’ll see there’s really no difference.

What’s on your iPod right now?

Kristen Stewart: Adele’s album 21. Honestly, I’ve choreographed whole marches with my Snow White army behind me to that. It’s really good for the story -- like, oddly good for it … too good for it. Hits the nail right on the head.

Beauty Trends: Steal the Look of Your Favorite Celebrity

From Taylor Swift’s red-carpet eyes to Miranda Cosgrove’s everyday luscious lip, we show you easy step-by-steps on how to get the glam looks of your favorite celebs.

Miranda Cosgrove’s Dewy Lips
Get Miranda’s au naturel pucker in just three easy steps.

1. If your lips are dry, exfoliate them with a bit of sugar, water and a toothbrush. Then apply your go-to moisturizer, lip balm or lip treatment.

2. Choose a neutral lip shade that adds just a pop of color to your natural lips. This can be a lipstick or stain. Apply it all over your lips.

3. Give your lips a swipe of clear or gold shimmer gloss, concentrating the shine on the inner parts of your lips and gradually decreasing the amount as you move outward. Piece of cake!

Taylor Swift’s Smoldering Cat Eye
Want to copy Taylor’s trademark smoky eye?

1. Brush a cream or white shadow all over your lids. This will be your base.

2. Line eyes with a black or dark-gray pencil liner (both top and bottom), extending the top line a little past your eye. Using a cotton swab, smudge the eyeliner in toward your lash line.

3. Apply a light-colored, shimmery shadow all over your eyelid up to your brow bone. Also add a bit to the inner corners of your eyes.

4. Apply a dark-colored shadow over your eyelid just up to the crease. Add extra shadow into your crease for dramatic definition. Blend shadow together with a brush or your finger.

5. Apply two coats of black mascara to your lashes. Get ready to steal the spotlight!

Selena Gomez’s Messy Side-braid
Nab Selena’s boho-chic braids in less than five minutes. (This look requires medium-length or long hair.)

1. Lightly tease the top of your mane to create a bit of volume.

2. Make a part on the right or left side of your head -- your choice!

3. Gather hair toward the side of your head, opposite your part, and braid it all the way down. Secure with a hair tie.

4. Gently pull a few strands of hair from your braid to get the messy look. Spray with a shot of hair spray to hold. Sport this easy ’do at school, on a date -- wherever!

Miley Cyrus’ Sun-kissed Glow
Miley is always stepping out like a bronzed goddess. Instantly get her glow with these super-quick tricks -- no sun needed!

1. Begin with a clean, moisturized face. Apply a thin layer of illuminating powder primer all over.

2. Grab your bronzer and a big fluffy brush. Sweep a small amount of bronzer across your forehead, down your nose, and on your cheeks and jawline. You’re targeting spots where the sun would naturally hit your face. Don’t forget to blend a bit into your neck.

3. Dab a bit more color onto your brush and define your cheekbones, just like you’d apply blush. Now you’re ready for summer!

Get Inspired by Celebs!

Before Kristen Stewart landed the role of Bella in Twilight and before Taylor Swift had a single music award, they were normal girls like you. Learn how they became stars, and apply their celeb tips to your life so you can make anything happen.

Taylor Swift once told a reporter, “I love having a goal, feeling like I’m on a mission. I love trying to beat what I’ve done so far. I knew that everything I wanted to happen could happen in Nashville. So it became my No. 1 goal to get there somehow.”

  • Steal her star secret: Be a go-getter by making a game plan. Think about that first thing you need to do to achieve your goal, and then make it happen. Dying to be elected student council prez? Have a poster-making party with your pals to let everyone know you’re running. Want to become a vet one day? Volunteer at an animal shelter and spend more time around pups. Every single step along the way takes you closer to your dream!

Demi Lovato still remembers her first time onstage: “We had a talent show at my elementary school, and that’s when I decided to sing something. I messed up, and I could have given up right then and there and said, ‘I’m never going to sing again.’ But it meant so much to me and I had so much fun out there that I thought, ‘You know what? Suck it up and sing for the rest of your life because that felt awesome.’”

  • Steal her star secret: Don’t let little mistakes trip you up! Everybody flubs up now and then, so you’re going to have to deal with some temporary setbacks and maybe even a few embarrassing moments. Instead of giving up when things don’t go your way, keep trying. It’s when you find the strength to rise above these things that you truly shine.

Kristen Stewart has said in an interview, “I feel like I’ve succeeded if I’m doing something that makes me happy and I’m not lying to anybody. I’m not doing that now, so I feel really good about myself.”

  • Steal her star secret: Always do what makes you -- not someone else -- happy! Your besties might all be trying out for cheer squad, but if you’re not into pom-poms and high-kicks, it’s OK to sign up for debate team instead. Yeah, that might mean a little less time with your friends, but being true to yourself is one of the keys to success. You won’t be motivated to work very hard at something you hate.

Miley Cyrus was mentoring on “American Idol” (Season 9) when she said, “Anyone that tells you that they’re not nervous at all … you’ve got to be a little nervous. That’s what drives you.”

  • Steal her star secret: Dare to be nervous about being nervous. It’s normal to get anxious when it comes to something big. So you can totally freak out over it … or let it motivate you. If you have a case of the jitters the night before your audition for the school play, pour that energy into practicing your part with even more verve. Hey, passion makes perfect!

Shaking It up ... Even More! ... With Bella and Zendaya

Last year, when Disney Channel’s “Shake It Up” premiered, we were lucky enough to hook up with the show’s stars Bella Thorne (who plays CeCe) and Zendaya Coleman (who plays Rocky). You guys loved our interview so much that we’re serving up some more fun dish on the girls!

Girl World Daily: What’s the vibe like on the set of “Shake It Up?”

Bella: We have such a talented cast on our show. It’s just all kids having a really great time. We all have a lot of fun with joking and dancing. Even though not everybody on the show is a dancer, we all dance! Like, Roshon Fegan (who plays Ty) will start beat boxing for us. It’s really fun and really random.

GWD: How have your dance skills improved since doing the show?

Bella: Our choreographer has helped me so much to grow as a dancer. It’s really unbelievable. I’ve worked hard to reach for my goals, and that’s also a reason why I’m just like CeCe. She won’t let anybody stop her at becoming whatever she wants to do.

GWD: Zendaya, are you anything like your character, Rocky?

Zendaya: I feel that since she’s such a generous and kind person, I really try to channel her all the time. And, like her, I love to dance. But I don’t get into as much trouble as she gets into.

GWD: What’s the most challenging part of playing this role?

Zendaya: Script changes! We get a script, we read it, and we work on it ... and the next day, we might have a lot of changes and so we have to rewire our brains and memorize the new changes. That’s the hardest part I’ve had to deal with so far. I think if that’s as hard as it gets, then I’m doing pretty well.

GWD: What made you want to get into acting?

Zendaya: My mom works for the California Shakespeare Factory, so I’ve kind of grown up around the theater. Watching rehearsals late at night, begging my mom to let me stay, kind of actually helped me realize that I wanted to be an actress. I got to see these incredible performances, and I said, “Hey, I can do that!”

GWD: Did that make the audition process easier for you?

Zendaya: The really cool part about my audition process is that they asked me to come in and read for the part of CeCe, but then I auditioned for Rocky. When I met with Bella, it was like instant chemistry, so I guess it worked out for the best.

Bella: We’re just like CeCe and Rocky. We’re really close! We have a great friendship and we always help each other.

Top 12 Pop Predictions for 2012!

See ya, 2011! The last 12 months have been packed with highs (like a fond farewell to the Harry Potter crew) and lows (like Selena snagging Justin). But we’re ready for a new year of rockin’ jams, fun flicks and fresh faces. Here are our expert predictions for the following categories:

12. Super-cute Boy Band: One Direction
A group of boys who are nice to look at and have adorable accents? We’re sold … and feeling lucky since the British/Irish quintet is jumping the pond in February for a U.S. tour.

11. Fam-time Video Game: Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games
This game came out in November for Wii, but it doesn’t release on Nintendo 3DS until February. The adrenaline will keep you feeling golden well into the big summer sporting events.

10. Glorified Music Video: Big Time Movie
The Nickelodeon-spawned boy band Big Time Rush is already soaring with its sitcom and Elevate album. Will the boys’ Beatles-inspired original TV movie cause as much ruckus? We think so!

9. Classic-turned-cartoon Flick: Dorothy of Oz
Every year’s gotta have one good animated film because we never really outgrow the kid within. We’re especially looking forward to this one since Fox TV’s “Glee” star Lea Michele lends her voice to the title character. Look for it to hit theaters in 3-D this summer!

8. Made-for-TV Musical: Let It Shine
Be on the lookout for this Disney Channel original movie, which follows 16-year-old Cyrus DeBarge in a romantic tale of mistaken identity. This one has lots of rap and a roundup of new stars!

7. All-girls Social Networking: Zuzee
Sick of Facebook? Check out Zuzee, an online community just for girls! We like it because of its safe format -- and we love, love, love the design elements. It’s like having an online scrapbook to share with your friends!

6. Singing Sister Sensation: Cimorelli
Sisters who sing? Yep, a six-pack! The youngest is 11, the oldest 21. Cimorelli is yet another batch of talent that was discovered on YouTube. The girls’ full-length album debuts in 2012.

5. Can’t-put-down Page-turner: Crewel
Can’t get enough sci-fi? What about suspense? Or romance? All three elements of excitement are packed into Crewel, the new young-adult novel by author Gennifer Albin. The story follows a 16-year-old girl set to become a spinster in a world of secrets. We’re already intrigued!

4. Tuesday Night TV Addiction: Jane By Design
Imagine landing a job at a hip fashion house before graduating high school. Promising to have a super-chic wardrobe, this ABC Family series, which premieres January 3, is bound to be our fave new show.

3. Confidence-boosting Song: “Fireball”
Willow Smith, the “Whip My Hair” wonder, linked up with Nicki Minaj for a smokin’ new track. “Fireball” is set to appear on the 11-year-old’s upcoming debut album, and you’ll def want to add this energy-packed anthem to your playlist!

2. Triple-threat Starlet: Cymphonique Miller
Our bets are on this 15-year-old being the new Nickelodeon “it” girl -- she sings, she acts, she grooves. Catch Cymphonique in the spotlight this January when she stars as Kacey Simon, a misfit who gets a gig as the lead singer of a band, on the network’s “How to Rock” series.

1. Morose Teen-screen Thriller: The Hunger Games
This mid-March sci-fi flick, based on the book trilogy of the same title, has been stirring up nearly as much commotion as Twilight. And, well, we even know some boys who’ve been reading the bestsellers by author Suzanne Collins. Date night!
